Ephesians 4:29
“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
I had a thought yesterday. What would the world look like if only encouraging words were spoken. What would it look like if negativity didn’t exist in language or action? How do we get to this impossible world?… well you also need to go 4:31 yourself.
Ephesians 4:31-32
“Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
I have been bringing these two verses before the Lord for a while now and I see positive change in my life. The amazing thing about God is, He truly gives you the desires of your heart. Although, he still hasn’t given me a Porsche or personal trainer named Fabio; but that’s neither here nor there. He HAS given me sooooo much. He’s given me a wild life full of adventure, travel and fun. Why then, oh WHY am I ruining it with unwholesome talk and bitterness? Paul explains it the best…..
Romans 7:15-20
“I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.” Drop mic.
Oh Paul, lets have lunch. You have so much to teach me.
I’ve learned to bring all of my rubbish to the Lord. My heart is a good heart, and my identity is pure. It’s the sin inside of me that does these things, not me. Humbly on my knees ask for His help to remove it; and by the Goodness of His character, He does.
So I encourage you….. Go 4:29 yourself.
