World Race travel days are the stuff of legends! With each successive travel day, things get more interesting.
After a somewhat spoiled month in Australia, we packed our bags and headed back toward Asia. And this is where the adventure began. The following is a recollection of the journey from Australia to Malaysia.
APRIL 5
2:30pm- take a Troopy to Darwin airport
5:30pm- enjoy a lovely argument about solid deodorant being a “gel” with customs officer
6:00pm- dinner of chocolate, potato chips, and soggy sandwiches
6:30pm- depart for Singapore

10:00pm- arrive to Singapore airport
10:30pm- Pizza Hut 4th meal!
11:00pm- scope out places to sleep, unload 43 people’s stuff
11:01pm- cue jackhammers and other various remodeling sounds
12:00pm- go to sleep and pray that we aren’t awakened by angry security guards
APRIL 6
4:30am- wake up from a restful night’s sleep…
5:30am- packs on, ready to go
walk to the trains
7:00am- walk to bus station
7:30am- STARBUCKSSSSSS
9:00am- load bags/ board bus to Malaysia
9:15am- exit bus for Singapore Customs
9:20am- get back on bus
9:30am- exit bus with all bags for entering Malaysia
10:00am- on the road again
2:30pm- get dropped off on the side of the road, Kuala Lumpur
2:31pm- torrential downpour
3:00pm- walk to meet our contact
3:30pm- realize we’re at the wrong place as we walk around designer mall past the likes of Armani, Jimmy Choo, and Versace in 2-day old clothes, carrying huge packs…
4:30pm- take light rail to correct location
6:00pm- meet contact, receive ministry location
6:30pm- arrange for taxis to take team APEX to the next bus station (travel in pairs)
7:40pm- still waiting for Brittani and Jessie to show up
8:00pm- Brittani and Jessie arrive after being driven to the wrong place and paying for a second taxi
9:00pm- take bus to Kuala Krai
APRIL 7
1:00am- potty break! (oh yeah…they’re squatty)
2:00am- on the road again
4:00am- awake to the bus stopping on the side of the road near a 7-11
6 girls exit the bus and lug packs across the road to buy minutes for the team cell phone in order to reach our contact
4:40am- arrive to our “home” at the Chinese Presbyterian church and hit the hay
