i said goodbye to zimbabwe on tuesday night. we took a bus through the night and arrived in johannesburg (joburg), south africa wednesday morning. which means we crossed the border at about 11pm. it was an adventure for sure. but those little adventures are what make up life!

life in south africa is very different. we are partnering with a ministry called impact africa. it’s structured, beautiful, wrecking, and hard sometimes. because joburg is such a big city, it has a reputation for being pretty dangerous. but rest assured, we live in a super safe compound and take tons of safety precautions to keep everyone safe. but with that being said, we don’t use any public transportation. we rely solely on impact africa to get us from place to place. which means a lot of scheduling ahead of time and not a lot of spur of the moment adventures. at first glance- shame. at second glance & with some input from jesus, i know it was intentional on his part.

impact africa has a dope internship program that runs 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, etc. so this month we get the awesome pleasure of living in community with some other young people who love jesus. i’ve been here for 3 full days and i’m already being poured into constantly. it’s crazy how much you can learn from watching other people live in community. and from other humans who are young too. the other night i came across some scripture that i loved.

“it is the spirit in a person, the breath of the Almighty, that gives them understanding. it is not only the old who are wise, not only the aged who understand what is right.” job 32:8-9

i think this scripture speaks directly to all the young people who are pursuing jesus. our generation is blamed for a lot. just by our age we are judged. many people assume we have nothing to offer, that we’re too young for blah blah blah. but this scripture blows that out of the water! it’s not about age, it’s about the spirit in your soul! young people— don’t let your age stop you from living in the light of jesus. don’t let your age stop you from sharing life with others. don’t let your age stop you from listening and following jesus. you are capable of everything, because of the spirit in your soul.

i’m expectant of this month. my final month in africa.

here we go, jesus.

love,

hallie
