Welcome to my first world race blog post aka the first blog post I’ve ever written in my whole entire life!
Obviously if you are reading this blog, you know I’m going on the world race—an 11 month long mission trip to 11 different countries 🙂 I’ll be leaving in August 2019 through July 2020 and traveling to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Peru, Bolivia, and Argentina. I’ll be doing ministry with my squad of 40-55 people that I have not met yet but that I know are gonna be some pretty amazing people who become like family!
The world race is ran through an organization called Adventures in Missions, and while I’m on the world race, ministry will look different each month. My team and I could be sent out to combat sex slavery by partnering with organizations who rescue girls from the red-light district in Asia; we may get to care for orphans in South America; we could get the opportunity to visit prisons and share the hope of Christ in Africa, and so much more! This is done by partnering with other previously existing ministries in these countries!
I’m gonna jump right into it and try to tackle the question I’ve been asked a lot recently: Why do you want to do the world race? It’s pretty simple actually. God is calling me to go, so I’m doing just that! I have a desire to grow deeper with the Lord, to see what The Church looks like outside of America, and to explore who God has created me to be!
Back in March 2018, I had a quarter-life crisis about my next steps after college. Life after college seemed so far away, yet close enough that I felt I had to have a plan set for what I was doing next. The world was telling me I needed to graduate and get a good job before I did anything meaningful with my life, but I knew those words weren’t coming from the Lord. When I heard about the World Race, I knew it was exactly what I was searching for. Throughout the six months of prayer and thinking on it before applying, I was lucky enough to have friends with such sweet hearts who also prayed for me and encouraged me to chase after God in this way (you know who you are…thanks y’all for the unending love and encouragement).
Throughout this journey, I will need lots of prayer, financial support (blog about fundraising to come soon), and encouragement from all of you!
Although the thought of leaving all that’s “normal” behind for the next 11 months can sound scary, I know my God is bigger than any anxiety or fear. Anxiety robs us of joy and peace, and fear holds us back from what the Lord has to offer us.
Matthew 16:25 says, “For whoever wants to gain their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life will find it.”
I’m confident that God has amazing things in store through this ministry, and by pursuing this, it’s one step closer to the calling that The Lord has for me—whatever that may be. I’m so excited for this journey and to see how God uses me!!!
