5:30am: Wake up on the floor of a classroom, boil some water and chug a cup of instant coffee, read my Bible, and journal

7:00am: Walk about 5 minutes away to have breakfast at the hostel we eat at for every meal. Breakfast usually consists of bread, fruit, and coffee

8:00am: Begin morning ministry. This looks different each morning. We’ve visited primary schools to play with kids, prayed for sick patients at a hospital, listened/shared testimonies at strangers’ houses who welcomed us so warmly, and taught general hygiene to school children

11:30am: Lunch. We are served rice, chicken, eggs, and bok choi usually

1:00pm: Begin teaching a class called “Bubbles.” My class is students from 9 to 11 years old. I have been teaching a unit on household items and family. I work with them on definitions, pronouncing the words, spelling the words, and being able to use the words in sentences. My students brought me gifts on my last day of teaching- they are so kind!

5:00pm: Begin teaching a class of young adults called “Hemisphere”. These are more accelerated and advanced english classes, and they have to test into this class.

7:00pm: Eat dinner. This is usually more rice, chicken, and veggies

8:00pm: Meet together as a team to give feedback, talk about our day, relay new ministry related information, and hangout

9:30pm: Shower time/bed time

Update: I am now over halfway done with the race. Month 6 of 11 is nearly complete. Wild huh? Seems like just yesterday i was very nervously hosting a trivia night to fundraise for all of this. On Monday the 27th, I’ll travel to Siem Reap, Cambodia and be there until February 4th. The first couple days will be an event called “Awakening” where my squad will get to meet with a gap year squad (Gap Year = the world race but only 3 countries in 9 months and it’s for 18-21 year olds). Honestly have no clue what we’ll be doing during those 2 days though. The remaining days in Siem Reap are for my squad’s debrief. On the 4th, we’ll travel into Laos. Laos is a very closed country, so like I did last month, all my social media will be private again and my blog will be password protected, but I’ll send out a blog in a few days as a reminder of this.

With love,

Hals
