We were asked to write a blog about how we were called to this mission trip. Here is my story…

A little over a year ago, God gave me sort of a reality check and showed me that the life I was living was not pleasing to Him. I was on the lake with a group of friends when this light bulb went off in my head… I knew that there was so much more to life than living for pleasing my own selfish desires but for some reason, when I attempted to live for Christ, my emptiness was never filled…God showed me over that summer that only through Him could my desires be changed. To a certain degree, I was living under the old covenant’s laws and was attempting to live out a works-based faith; however, I believed that Christ had to be my Lord in order to be my Savior. The Lord has slowly shown me that the Christian life is one of freedom, that I am free from sin!

Non-believers often ask me how I know that I am saved and how I know the Holy Spirit is real. My best response to them is for me to explain how Christ has transformed my mindset and my heart. Each day I ask Christ to make me more like Him-whether it be through helping me with my words, or through helping me to love others with a love like His…God has been faithful to do just that, He even changed my desires in a way I never expected. He gave me a passion for long term missions.

As I realized that missions was the next step in my life, I started discussing this with my small group bible study and within a matter of weeks I was signed up to go with Adventures in Missions around the world! It is hard to believe where Christ has taken me over the past year and I cannot wait to see how He will continue to make me more like Him over the year to come!
