Where do you find your identity? Do you find it in your looks, your friend group, how good at sports you are, getting good grades? Do you find your identity in your job, or how much money you make? What about in how good of a parent you are or maybe you find your identity in your current relationship status? Do you find your identity in Christ? This is a topic that is mostly talked about to teenagers, but I think even adults struggle with where they find their identity.

In America we are told by society that our identity needs to be found in our job, our parenting skills, our grades, sports, music, our looks, etc. However, I have never once been told by American culture that my identity should be found in Christ. Even as Christians we find ourselves listening to the world on this because well we want people to like us. We forget that the only opinion of us is what God says about us. I know that a number of us have heard this and it’s head knowledge, but has it moved down to our heart? Do you really believe not just know, do you actually believe that your worth and value is in who Christ says you are?

If you spend time in His word you will easily find verses that talks about your identity in Christ. The Bible says as Christians we are made whole, we are freed, we are His servants. In Genesis 1:26 it says that we are made in His image. Sit down and read Psalm 139 it’s a great chapter about how much God knows us and how we are fearfully and wonderfully made. American media says that you have to be a certain way to be valuable and worth anything. God though says we are already worth it. We are worth it so much that He sent His son to die for our sins. He doesn’t care if we aren’t the smartest person in school. He doesn’t care that we don’t look like the people we see on TV. He doesn’t care that we don’t make 6 figures a year. He loves us just as we are. He loves us unconditionally. We shouldn’t care about our identity being found in worldly things because ultimately those things won’t matter. I used to find my identity in the world, but now I find it in Christ.

I am a daughter of the King, I was chosen by Him, I am a servant of God. I am His masterpiece, I have been made whole. I have no chains on me because He has set me free and I am beautifully and wonderfully made. That is where I find my identity. Now where do you find yours?
