This day popped out of nowhere. The day of the beginning of the next 11 months … has arrived.
I flew into Washington DC yesterday to begin leaders training, which consisted of a brief couple of hours of explaining what to expect and how to control our expenses for our teams and squad. Being one of the two logistics leaders for G Squad, along with my parter in crime Carter Gannon, the finances for the whole squad are over us, including transportation from one country to the next, fun days, and pretty much all the large and intimidating costs.
We chicklings were pushed out of our nests and put to the test today. Team leaders and treasurers walked approx. 4 miles in the dead heat to pick up groceries for our teams while stateside for launch; and meanwhile, the logistics people went to the airport to round up the remainder of our squads.
Lesson #1: you CAN fit 5 extra people and their packs into an already full shuttle.

I have to say, I feel really blessed being a logistics person. I like the idea that I have something to do to fill this field down time I’ve heard so much about — if I am sitting around with nothing to do I tend to go crazy.
I also like the fact that this position has the labeling of being a humbling position, one that often goes unnoticed but includes many different responsibilities. I know that if I had a position where my teammates were constantly seeing and mentioning the things I was doing that it would seriously go to my head.
Honestly, coming here I was not mentally prepared for this whole adventure. I wasn’t like Yea, I’ll be gone for 11 months … I was more like Well, let me just pack this huge bag, catch a flight to DC, and then see what happens after that. There wasn’t really a dramatic breakdown in this past month where I came to the realization that I would be without dependable water, security, and fresh home cooked vegetables. It’s kind of just another phase of my life.
So, no — it hasn’t hit me that I will be gone for almost a year.
I’m just living it one day at a time.
And as of now, there’s a couple more days in DC and then we’re OFF TO THE WORLD!!
Pray, pray, pray for us please as we embark this journey. God’s already doing great things though this adventure and it is so obvious that Satan is trying to ruin the continuation of those wonderful things.
