For the past couple of days God has brought me back to the same passage in Matthew 19, verses 16-30.

For the first couple of times I read it I really only saw one main message:

The rich kid wants to know how to have eternal life;

Jesus tells him to get rid of all his money;

camel through a needle;

you’re sure out of luck if you’re rich.

God kept bringing me back to this passage.

Time after time of reading it I began to notice a little something more. There was something more than just what we know the story is famous for.

Jesus’ character shines through the words.

It all can be focused in on the first two verses (16, 17):

Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked,

“Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?”

“Why do you ask me about what is good?”

Jesus replied.

“There is only One who is good.

If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.”

So many of us fall into what Mr. Rich-Man is seeking.

What can I do?

What can I do to become closer to you, God?

What can I do to be seen as favored in your eyes?

Jesus notices this prideful question and completely turns the perception from what is good to WHO is good.

He tries to guide the rich man’s eyes from what he does for trying to get closer to God to simply seeing God.

I can find myself in that position many times. My eyes are focused in on my schedule, my plan, and my priorities, and I forget who I am serving.

The good news is that Jesus recognizes this.

He sees my flaws and decides to shine His character through my flaws. He chooses to allow me to depend on His strength rather than my weaknesses.

Speaking of a camel going through a needle… I am in the opposite boat.

There have been some shifts within CGA and AIM recently, mainly concerning finances.

Due to these current changes, I need to raise the remainder of my support by the beginning of April.

April. That means approximately right now.

That remainder sums up to be around $1,000 total.

Now, I can see how Jesus is sneaky and has brought me to this passage over the past couple of days.

I have ever reason to be freaking out right now, knowing that it’s a lot of money to be raised in a few days and that if it’s not raised I won’t receive my $200 stipend for the month of April.

But wow, isn’t it so peaceful to know that He cares for me so much more that I could ever think to care for myself?

Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do now sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

(Matthew 6: 25-26)

I would like to invite you to be a part of this peaceful journey in assisting me to become fully fundraised for the remainder of my time in Georgia.
