Today my sister dropped me off at the airport in Houston, Texas and it was my first familt goodbye. We have spent the last four days making our way to a small camp where she will be teaching outdoor education this school year. I realized that goodbyes aren’t meant to be sad. They are a sign of something different, a new direction. They may be hard to do, but they don’t have to be sad. Either way, life will go on, whether you’re excited or sad or whatever emotion. It’s up to you how you react to the goodbye. Learning how to live in the moment is sometimes a challenge, but it is worth it. Not looking back or for what is next, but what is happening NOW. Enjoy the time you get to spend with people, now, so the goodbye is that much more exciting.
