Mutarara and all its beautiful people are now seven hours behind us,
but the memories and faces of our family we left behind will forever be
etched in our minds. We set off for the small village of Mutarara,
Mozambique one month ago, with the misssion of building an orphanage
for 40 something orphans who lost their previous `shelter´ in the
Zambezi River flood in early January. Our three weeks in Mutarara
proved to be much more than just a construction project, and none of us
will be the same because of it. ´To him who is able to do immeasurably more than
all we ask or imagine´Ephesians 3:20.
THe construction of the orphanage building is underway, although it is
definitely a slow project. Efficiency is not in the Mozambique
vocabulary! God has gone before us in every part of the construction
process though, from finding bricks to hiring labor, to developig a
sufficient house plan in our price range. We hit several road blocks
with the construction, but each time it brought us to the throne,
crying out for the Lord to make a way where there did not seem to be
one. Each time, God our Father was faithful. When the plans for the
orphanage were drawn and the price was $3,000 more than we had raised,
God made a way and brought the contractor to a place where he said,
ókay, I will make it work for the amount of money you raised´. Praise
God. Again, God was faithful when we did not have a way to get all of
our raised money out of the bank and World Vision stepped in to help us
transfer funds in the needed time. Praise God. With each road block
that we could not pass, God made a way!
The foundation is now almost finished for the building, and the entire
project is projected to be completed in 30-40 days. The rains and lack
of modern construction equipment may cause some delays, but we pray the
building will be finished soon and the children will have a safe place
to live.
As for the ´more´God had for us that I mentioned earlier, I will have
to share in a later blog. I am still processing all that I learned, and
will share it with you… once I have figured out how to put it in action.
