Just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself & say hello to everyone! My name’s Mel, I’m 28 years old and currently live in San Diego, California, where I teach English as a Second Language. I attend The Rock Church and have been here for about four years now (originally from Canada).

This past year God has really been working in my life in powerful ways – it’s been a year of what I call “divine pruning”, and through the trials I’ve seen the promise of James 1:2 carried out in my life: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” In going through the trials, God has really broken my heart for what breaks His – this last year He has been calling me to serve people who feel forgotten by a lot of society and so I’ve become actively involved in my church’s homeless ministry (especially Church Without Walls). I’ve also been blessed to be able to be a mentor in the Step-Up mentoring program for foster youth in the community.

Last August I began sponsoring a 5-year old boy in Haiti through world vision and had actually been looking for a mission trip to join when the earthquake hit in January. When AIM sent out the email about this trip, I knew right away it was something God wanted me to do.  I’m so excited and feel so blessed to be able to be a part of this trip and look forward to meeting all of you!

P.S. you’ll be able to connect with me on Facebook after easter 🙂
