What is the World Race?
I’m glad you asked. The World Race is an 11- month mission trip to 11 countries. In these countries, we partner with local ministries and provide them with support in whatever ways they need. These ministries do work that includes going to remote villages to share the Gospel, caring for orphans, working to free sex slaves, and visiting prisons. The primary goal in all we do is to share the hope and love of Christ with everyone we encounter. Fun fact: The World Race is modeled after Jesus sending out the disciples in Matthew 10:7-10.
Why does the World Race exist?
To empower the church and build the kingdom of God wherever we go through intimacy, community, and mission.
Now that you have a little info on what the World Race is, here are some answers to the questions I get asked most frequently:
What does all the money you’re raising cover?
Food, lodging, travel (planes, buses, etc.), insurance, training camp. PSA: you can help me reach my fundraising goal by hitting the orange donate button at the top of my blog! If you already have – thank you!!
When do you leave?
I will be heading to Atlanta on October 5th (Yes, on my 23rd birthday). We will be in Atlanta for a few days for what is called “Launch” and be heading out to Belize on October 8th.
What is this “Launch” of which you speak?
Two days of final training and prep before we hit the ground running in our first country.
What countries are you going to?
Belize, Honduras, El Salvador, Vietnam, Cambodia, Albania, Serbia, Romania, Ethiopia, Uganda, and Rwanda.
What country are you most excited about?
This one is really hard…I’m not sure. Can I just be excited about the entire year?
Where will you be staying in each country?
Good question. We should find out a few weeks before we leave whatever country we are currently serving in. Our squad (P-squad) is made up of 36 amazing people who have been broken into 6 groups of 6 people each. We will travel from country to country en-masse but will split up once we arrive. I could be in a big city one month and a rural village the next. Depending on what part of the country we’re in, we could be sleeping in an orphanage, apartment, with a ministry host, or in our tents.
What will you be doing in each country?
Good question. Depends on which ministry host we wind up staying with. Wherever we are, we will be serving alongside local believers. This could look like caring for orphans or widows who are struggling, having VBS (vacation Bible school), teaching English, or a myriad of other things.
How much can you pack?
Well, I have a 70L backpack and a daypack (smaller backpack) that can’t be more than 50lbs (and after carrying it around the airport for hours…my goal is to be as light as possible). So…I’ll be going for a minimalist lifestyle while still trying to pack stuff for “just in case” situations.
How can I help?
Pray for us. For P-squad (the 36 of us traveling together) and for Team Agape (the 6-person team of amazing girls that I’ll be doing day-to-day life with for the next 11 months). We will all be leaving friends and family for a year, all adjusting to many different cultures, all trying to raise money, all trying to stay focused on the reason we’re going – it’s a lot. Feel free to support me financially. I have $3,512 left to go- we’re so close guys!!!
