It is a startling thing to hear that 27 million people are being enslaved each year in this world. But it is even more shocking to think that on average each person being sold in the sex industry is “purchased” anywhere from 4-40 times a night. So if when we multiply those numbers together it turns my stomach to think that potentially millions of people are purchasing sex.
MILLIONS.
this is not the few men here and there who have a problem or are lonely.
These are the men we pass every single day on the street. Why is it that when I say I want to work in other countries with human trafficking that people are more shocked and worried for me to be in those countries than when I’m at home. Because if we look at the heart of the problem the men who are rapping and buying sex from teenage and even elementary age children are the men I pass every single day.
Thailand is consumed by sex trade and is notorious for having a high turn over rate in “innocent” underage girls… why is that? Because there is a demand! Because men are willing to pay more to rape a little girl. What is going on?! And who is this demand coming from…. mostly American white men! Men fly from other countries to purchase girls. To live this seperate life where they think they will never be seen and then fly home to their families and continue with their life…. While some girl lays paralyzed and rapped. He will never remember her name or face yet he can take her innocence. What on earth is happening to us?
We are woven into the fabric of sex trade. Men are told that if they want sex all they have to do is find someone willing and if not they can purchase it. Girls… we dress in a provocative and taunting way, we post pictures & we lavish in compliments of beauty and desire… we feed the hunger for sex. We think we are innocent because we aren’t the ones rapping them… when really we are mainly to blame. We feed the desire for sex we tempt and flaunt and when we say no to them where do they go to… they buy little girls stolen from their homes. Because you have fed their addiction strengthening it the fire grows and the industry continues to strive thirsting for more and more illicit sex.
While I am excited to meet these girls and tell them about Jesus I am more excited to meet the men of this industry. I will sit and talk to the men at the bars as they pick which girl they want to buy. I will ask them where they are from and how old their own children are. Ask to see pictures of their wives and family. Ask them about their beliefs and listen. I will watch and try to begin understanding how this world operates so that I can work my way into it. I will find my way. Slowly and surely. God is preparing me. I am not simply stepping into darkness.
I am diving and digging and racing into it. because lets be honest there is no time left.
Jesus is coming back soon. There’s no time for timidness.
live recklessly.
end slavery
