So we made it safe and sound to Nepal! Yay!! Debrief was so much fun and so needed. The reason for debrief is to reflect of the recent month(s) and to just relax physically and to be filled with the Lord and rest in Him. While we did get to sit with the Lord a lot and worship we also got to go out and explore Katmandu.
It was a week filled with Everest fly byes, a surplus of tattoos, getting retained by national park guards, and getting slightly lost in the Himalayas. (Don’t worry Mom and Dad, I was not a part of any of the above listed “adventures” J) I did however get to have some really amazing talks with the trekkers staying in our hostel and I got to do some really cool Christmas shopping (wink, wink friends and family) in the street markets of Thamel.
Now we have left debrief, left 26 of our squad mates, and left the daily ability to use Wi-Fi and we have made it to our ministry this month, with our sister team “Breath of Life”. Our 6 man team has added 6 new members to become a super team for this next month. Their names are Stella, Bo, Rodrigo, Lindsey, Jackson, and Emily if you wouldn’t mind keeping them in your prayers this month as you keep my team as well. (Nick, Katie, Tam, Elijah, Luke, and me!)
This month both of our teams are doing “high adventure ministry”… When I first heard this I got scared. I’m not the most fit person so I got very scared but it’s actually pretty amazing. We are only two days in and we have already done so much.
On our first day we visited the Monkey temple and did a prayer walk. As soon as we walked in there was this since of emptiness you could feel, they were all so lost. We walked around and prayed for them and the more we prayed the more we could feel the Holy Spirit working and it was amazing.
Our first full day here though we visited an “old ladies home”, yes that’s what they call it. It was so heart breaking but amazing because they were left alone on the streets and brought into this home and even though they barley have anything they still have their faith and its beautiful. We just got to sit with them and laugh and sing and pray and it was so amazing.
Today, oh today we did the coolest thing yet. We took a 3 hour bus ride on an overcrowded public bus to the remote mountains of Katmandu. After our bus ride we hiked to a Lepers colony in this valley. We got to listen to their stories and pray for them and eat with them. Yet again, society had made them outcasts and they had to live in seclusion but yet again their faith is so strong.
The people I have meet these last few days have thought me so much about my faith and standing strong in it.
I can’t wait to update yall more as the month goes on! One thing for sure though is GOD’S NOT DEAD IN NEPAL!
Signing off for now and sending love from Nepal.
