This is Sunshine. She was one of the girls (along with Sophia, Angelica, and Francesca) that I really connected with yesterday while we were visiting their community. Their community is called “Tent City” because it use to be full of tents and was a refugee camp after a tsunami years ago, but the once temporary neighborhood has now become a place of small permanent structures. Part of our ministry while we are here is to have feedings in this area, as well as the surrounding communities, multiple times a week. We bring food and serve the kids and adults in the area, play with the kids, teach them about the Bible, talk to them and learn their stories, pray with them, and just make them feel seen and loved.

I know that we were going into this community to help fill their bellies, but it was my heart that was so full after leaving them at the end of the day! I cannot wait to go back later this week to continue building my relationship with these girls and the other children here.

Greg and I are putting together a short video to share more about Kids International Ministries (the organization we are serving with this month) and the work that they are doing here in the Philippines. We’ll share that with you guys in our next blog post!

Alyssa

“Suppose a brother or sister does not have any clothes or daily food and one of you tells them, ‘Go in peace! Stay warm and eat heartily.’ If you do not provide for their bodily needs, what good does it do? In the same way, faith by itself, if it does not prove itself with actions, is dead.” James 2:15-17
