“Don’t forget ‘93”.

A saying you’ll see spray painted onto walls, rocks, and banners around the city of Mostar. But it’s not just the handiwork of graffiti artists that remind you of what happened here 25 years ago, it’s the scars that adorn the walls of this hurting city. There are countless bullet holes scattered amongst the beautiful stone buildings around Mostar, a great number of these buildings even sit abandoned ever since the war. This was a war of different people groups fighting for territory and “ethnic cleansing”.

We were not called for separation and disunity. Paul explains it well in his letter to the church of Corinth:

“I urge you, my brothers and sisters, for the sake of the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, to agree to live in unity with one another and put to rest any division that attempts to tear you apart. Be restored as one united body living in perfect harmony. Form a consistent choreography among yourselves, having a common perspective with shared values.” 1 Corinthians 1:10

This is my prayer for this beautiful city, this country, and it’s amazing people; to put to rest any division and to live in unity with one another, no matter what region of the Balkans their lineage is. Will you join me in this prayer for Bosnia & Herzegovina?
