So when I first started the world race about 5 months ago
back in central America, I thought there were some things that were so strange
that I would never really get used to, 5 months latter here I am, feeling quite
comfortable traveling around the world and feeling pretty normal as being the outsider
and getting used to the strange customs rather quickly. So in no particular order I made a list of
things that I have gotten used to traveling to third world countries.

1.
Having to throw away your used toilet paper in a
little trash can next to the toilet as opposed to flushing it down the toilet,
as it runs the chance of clogging it.

2.
Taking cold showers, yes most places we have
traveled to have not the finances or luxury for heated showers.

3.
Not drinking from the tap, using bottle water
for everything

4.
Stray dogs always being around and being more of
a hinderance and nuisance than actually thinking of them as cute little dogs
that just don’t have a home, no most are “large furry rats that bark” and
should be eliminated (sorry to those who feel like dogs have rights, I love
dogs…at least ones that are well taken care of and treated as pets…that is not
the majority around the world)

5.
Not taking a shower everyday, (but to those who
know me all to well, not taking showers every day in the states as a norm for me then)

6.
Going to food markets and not sure of what the
vast majority of the food is, be that fruit or vegetable or even meat.

7.
Negotiating prices on food and clothes at
markets

8.
(on the topic of meat) seeing meat that is left
unrefrigerated during the course of the day in attempts to sell it those people
passing by.

9.
Living out of my backpack, as soon as when we
arrive at our housing sight, the bag explodes open and clothes are just dumped
on the bag and kept that way until I need new clothes to wear, (with this case
it has become more like home)

10.
Traveling around in just about any and every
sort of transportation that you can imagine, anything from ferries to jeepnies
to buses to little trikes, planes, canoes, sketchy white vans, back of pick up
trucks to scooters (but that is WR, not ok, so I found out after I had a little
accident which involved a hospital visit and a pretty wicked scar on my elbow
now)

11.
Seeing little lizards crawling about on the
walls of our living spots and not thinking anything of it.

12.
Seeing people talking to Becca in their native
tongue thinking that she knows the language because she is so dark and the rest
of us are so white

So yeah, that seems like a pretty
good list for right now, im sure there are more if I put my mind to it and perhaps I’ll add those later but this
ought to suffice for right now, hope you enjoyed reading what I have gotten
used to doing.
