I apologize to all who have been following me, or at least attempting to follow me…I know I have not made it easy for its been well over 2 months since i have blogged…my sincerest apologies. I would like to take a few quick minutes to explain my last month in Kenya.
Since we left southeast Asia, Cambodia to be exact there have been some changes. During my month in Cambodia I had been asked by my squad leaders how I was feeling with leading the team through the rest of the year and to be honest I had really been feeling like it was time for a change. Time to give someone else from my squad to use their leadership qualities and time for some things to be mixed up and time for me to rest and explore more of myself and not have to have the burden of a team on me. So i had prayed and really consulted God and He gave me the OK to step down. With all that in mind I had joined another team and during our first few weeks of Kenya we had been praying into a new team name. WE wanted something that represented us well…two words came to mind. FUN and RECKLESS. After much debate of a name, the word RODEO came to my mind…an event which is tons of FUN and yet has a total sense of RECKLESS to it. When we come to a country we bring the fun of being a believer in Christ and express the JOY we have. While at the same time we also are reckless in our pursuit of Christ and invite others to join the fight against our enemy.
With all that in mind now, we served in a small village called Kiminini near the bigger town of Kitale. We worked with a local pastor (Pastor Shadrack Barasa) who is absolutely a man of God and is passionate about serving Him and bringing the Kingdom into total darkness. I grew so much just by listening to his stories about spiritual warfare and his disciplines in life. I swear he never ate or slept. He would often go to be way later than us and wake up before the sunrise and often times during the night I would wake up and hear him praying…such a devout man of God.
Anyways…we all had different ministries for the month. Ginger and myself somehow ended up working at 2 different Cyber cafes which one supported pastor and his family and the other supported the Ordinary Women which is a group affiliated with the church who supports orphan children. Amanda and Alex worked with the social workers in the area going from school to school checking on some of the orphan children that the Ordinary Women supported. Cassie and Christy first started teaching but soon fell into roles of being around the house and learning how to be Kenyan women. Allan or Pastor Allan as they called him, often would go on house visits with Pastor and pray over people and speak words of encouragement to them.
During our month there we lead a 4 day long crusade at the church, played with many children, got involved with some street children programs in Kitale, made friends in the community and even helped deliver a child (you can read more about this from Alex Wilson or Christy Plummer’s blog). This was our longest month yet, as we spent close to 35 days at ministry before departing for a much needed debrief in Nairobi. Below are some pictures from the month.
