As we
were walking back to our home from ministry one day I noticed many pieces of
broken mirrors along the side of the road, probably from small little accidents
as people tend to drive a bit crazy here. But anyways as I was walking I remember hearing the phrase “Broken Glass
Still Shines”. As I thought more about
this idea it made since to me in view of what we have been doing and seeing as
we go door to door. The idea here is two
fold. The first way we look at it is
from the idea that some of the people we talk to are Christians but have fell a
bit off track “Shiny but Broken”. The
other way I look at is it is from the other side of people we talk to; people
who are not believers and don’t really see their need for a savior and/or their
own depravity and are OK with it “Broken but Shiny”.

                “Shiny
but Broken”, these people have legitimately accepted Christ as their Lord but
as the parable of the sower may go, these are the people who the seed fell
among rocky soil. The seed grew up fast
but didn’t have time to take roots so with the sun baking on them they wither
away and fall back into their old habits. One lady we visited had mentioned that she has fits of demonic
possession and can’t seem to get rid of it. As we continued to talk with her I kept on getting wiffs of alcohol but
wasn’t anything too strong. That gave me
a little hint but she also said that she had relatives come over and drink and
thought that it was possibly the furniture that we sat on and the smell of
alcohol on it. I came back to visit this
lady another day and it was confirmed that my original thought was dead
on. She had a bit of a problem and didn’t
want to come out and say or nor really seemed to want help. I believe she is a Christian and that she
probably does have some spiritual attacks but also wander how much she is
trying to help herself. My sister is
Shiny but broken!

                “Broken
but Shiny”, these people are the people whom say that don’t mind us sharing the
gospel with them but as we go about giving our little spew, they are doing
everything else from changing their baby’s diaper to washing clothes to peeling
bananas. They really don’t care what we
have to say, even after sharing our faith to them, they then share that they
are a Muslim. You would think that they
would say that before I even start sharing anything else but they allow me to
go through the whole thing. I actually
thank God that they allow me to speak Truth to them but find it a bit
frustrating as I would come at a different angle that what I would normally. These people find themselves to be “good”
people or “good enough” and that is just fine with them. And then what makes matters worse is that
they feel they are Ok and convince and attract others to go down the same path
they are in. These lost sheep are Broken
but Shiny!
