FUN STUFF!
Our flight included free movies, Cup'o'Noodles, "adult" beverages, and almost anything else that can distract you from how numb your bum is becoming from sitting in one place for too long.
I still found myself pausing my movie though, and having to remind myself that I've left the U.S., and won't be back for a year.
This was soon followed by a WTH moment, some reminiscing, another kit-kat bar, and me inevitably resuming my movie and snacking away, watching Jason Statham use his karate skills to bust some fools with his bald head of fury.
I became very ware of my surroundings at this point, sadly a little late in the flight. I realized that my mission field wasn't only going to be at my ministry sight, but it is wherever I am at the moment. I began to look for opportunities to experience God and places where God's love could be shown, even in the simplest ways.
Well, we got off the flight, headed to our next gate, and sat. Nothing special… yet…
That's when fellow racer and partner in crime Tommy Lepke approached me and asked if I wanted to explore a bit.
Yes. VERY yes.
We began to parade around the airport like the children that we are. Camera in hand, we began our mission of tactical espionage, infiltrating the and observing all that we could in this foreign land. As we rounded a corner, we discovered a kid's playground.
Naturally, we went straight to it.
This is where we met George, his wife Joy, and their son Hank.
After a few hellos and a few tosses of the ball, Tommy, Hank, George and myself were engaged in a full-on excercise of athleticism as we used chairs to smack the ball at each other and around obstacles while the mildly concerned mother took pictures! It was so fun to just enjoy some silly moments with a son and his parents.
After getting to know the family a little better, Tommy and I engaged in prayer with them. This was an interesting moment, as it was a clash of two entirely different cultures and up-bringings and possibly beliefs, but nonetheless God showed up and worked.
All of us encountered God together for the first time, and it was a beautiful thing. Through the simplicity of just enjoying life together and each other's company, we formed a bond and friendship with this wonderful family.
God shows up in the simple moments, and is always nearby.
Enjoy the simple moments.
🙂
