Update: Welcome to Peru! On Sunday November 11, I arrived with my team at the Inca Link camp in Trujillo, Peru! So far so good! But this post is actually about one of my favorite workers from Camp Hope in Quito, Ecuador. This woman changed my life while in Quito; she showed me what it looks like to constantly love those around you (Latina or Gringa), to have a servants heart in all you do, and to give grace ”seventy times seven times”.
Lucia is the cook at Camp Hope and definitely my favorite person to work with there. Although I speak very little Spanish, and she speaks even less English, we go together like peas and carrots.
My letter to Lucia:
Lucia,
Thank you for loving me like your own daughter. Every morning I come to see you, whether we are working together or not, you welcome me with open arms. You have a heart to serve others, and you do it especially well with food. Thank you for instilling a servants heart within me through your amazing example. Thank you for teaching me about Ecuador through fruits, veggies, juices, and other dishes. You are an amazing cook and answer all my questions on new foods I’ve never heard of. Thank you for persistently working with me, although i don’t always understand what your saying. Your patience with me reflects the Lord’s patience with followers. Thank you for seeking me out to help you in the kitchen, it makes me feel so loved and like my work is meaningful.
Many bendiciones,
Gracie J
