Life update
Hello friends!! I’m sorry I have not blogged in a bit, but I wanted to give you guys an update on what life currently looks like for me! For the past month and a half, I have been living in Chiang Mai, Thailand and have a little less than two weeks left here. Monday through Friday, I do ministry at a domestic abuse treatment center called the “Wildflower Home”. This treatment center houses single women who are pregnant or have children. The purpose of the home is to provide emotional stability and shelter to the mothers and their children while allowing the women to gain life skills such as farming, learning English, cooking, etc. Currently, there are 10 mothers living there and there are 18 children in total there with the women.
My team and I, as well as another team on my squad, get the opportunity to work alongside the mothers each day, usually performing tasks that involve manual labor. We have shoveled/wheelbarrowed dirt, pulled weeds, broke rocks, swept leaves, hoed in the banana fields and around the pond, and plowed dirt. It is quite tiring; however, it has given me a tremendous amount of appreciation for the women and people all over the world that do this for a living.
The women speak very little English, but we have been using our phones a little bit to translate back and forth and we have been able to learn a little more about some of them. These ladies are all so strong and inspire me daily. They have welcomed each of us with open arms and serve as such bright lights in my life. I am truly so upset that we have such a small amount of time left with them, but I’m so grateful for the time we have shared together. They have taught me so much about my strength and just served as some of the best encouragers. These women have taken what they have and not let their circumstances stand in the way of their capability. They are independent and powerful.
Through this ministry, the Lord has provided all of us with so much strength and perseverance. Working out in the heat doing manual labor is no walk in the park, but God sure has sustained us and truly is the only reason we have had the energy to make it through most days.
Thank you guys for following along on my journey and for all of the support. I’m SO thankful for this experience and can’t wait for what’s to come!!
