“I don’t wanna go if you’re not going before me”

The song “I Don’t Wanna Go” by Chris Renzema has been one of the most inspirational and influential songs in my life recently. The journey I am embarking on this coming September is not necessarily an easy one, making me susceptible to doubt. This song is a reflection of my heart in this season of life, a season of learning what it means to trust fully in the Lord.

“Like David and the Temple, I want to bring You praise

But like David and his Temple plans, Your ways are not my ways

You don’t need me to build a temple to know that You love me still”

Preparing my heart to go on the race has shown me time and time again that His ways are not my ways. He is The Way and this is His way for my life, so I must fully surrender to that.

Trusting fully in Him brings me back to the question time and time again: Why? Why am I going on the World Race?

Here are some reasons for this complete surrender:

  • Because I am called to step out of the comforts of my own life, and into something greater. Something for the Kingdom.
  • Because God doesn’t want anything extravagant, He just wants simple obedience.
  • Because I am nothing without Jesus.
  • Because unreached people NEED to know his love and sacrifice. The cross has the final word, and every inch of the earth deserves to know the power of the risen King.
  • Because the World Race provides a place for community. A place to love and grow with those you’re living with for 9 months while serving the Lord with all of your heart.
  • Because He was and is and is to come, and he has set the way before me. He is expanding my heart for unexplainable growth and peace.

“I don’t wanna go if you’re not going before me”

He has set my path and he knows my heart, covering me in grace and giving me a reason to serve him with everything I have. He went before me. He knows my feelings. My pain. My doubt. And He is welcoming and embracing me with open arms on this journey ahead.

Much love,

Grace
