11 countries, 11 months.
It’s a long time away from family and friends, but really a short time spent in each country.
As I’ve been preparing myself mentally and spiritually for my trip, a question that keeps coming up is how to be most effective and have the greatest impact on the people I’m going to serve if I will only be with them for 30 days at a time.
The Lord led me to this Scripture and excerpt from a Jesus Culture devotional called “Faith For Your City.” Here’s what it says:
“God wants to set us up with favor so that we can reach as many people as possible with the Good news. Jesus taught His disciples a supernatural way of thinking about planting and harvesting. In John 4:35, Jesus explained to His disciples that most people think this: ‘Four more months and then the harvest.’ But Jesus gave them a new perspective: ‘But I tell you, take a good look at the fields; the crops are now ripe and ready to be harvested!’ (John 4:35). Most of us think the same way about our cities, but God wants us to believe that a city and a nation can be saved right away. As we read further in John 4, after Jesus opened their eyes, He invited the disciples to enter into a new, supernatural way of seeing people. In John 4:36, we read that Jesus gave them an incredible vision to stir their hearts – ‘I have sent you to reap a harvest in a field where you did not work; others worked there, and you profit from their work.'”
I found this ridiculously relevant to what I foresee the World Race experience being like – in a lot of ways, we really will be reaping the harvest of many that came before us. I love following other Racers blogs and hearing stories about miracles and baptisms and all of the supernatural ways God is using these missionaries to bring the Kingdom to people all over the world.
So yes, I will only be each country for one month, but so what! This is exactly what our world would like to tell us – that we can’t really be effective or have any lasting impact in such a short amount of time. But Jesus says, Ahem, yes you can. The harvest is ready. I’m sending YOU. I want revival NOW. It doesn’t matter if you have 3 days, 30 days, or 3 years. We’re talking about Me, right?! The God of the impossible?! That’s what I thought. (Or so I imagine Jesus saying in His ever graciously truthful tone
)
I can’t wait for this adventure and to see the ways Jesus will use all of us to bring salvation to people all over the world.
Forever His,
Grace
