K squad made it to Santa del Cruz, Quiché, Guatemala for our first month of ministry!
We are staying in our tents at a compound called Agape in Action.
This month, my team (Magnetic Light) and Hannah Adkinson’s team (Warrior Bride) are working with Pastor Eliseo and his church in San Pedro. We will be doing construction to build his church a retreat center. I’m pretty pumped. After working all summer rehab-ing Gramps & Gran’s old house on Browndale, this feels right up my alley.
It’s Guatemala’s Independence Day on Monday, so the past few days have been abnormal. All the kids are out of school and there’s tons of celebrations going on so ministry has looked a little different.
On Wednesday, Pastor Eliseo dropped us off at a school where a bunch of kids were playing organized soccer in a courtyard.
We were standing right by the team bench when one little player came off the field hanging his head, indicating that he had hurt it pretty bad. When he kept holding his head for a while on the bench, I went over to comfort him and try to figure out what was wrong in my extremely minimal Spanish.
Earlier that day, my good friend Michael Sullivan had taught me how to say, “Can I pray for you in English?” in Spanish, so I asked the boy if I could pray and he responded “Si!”
So I laid a hand on him and prayed in English that Jesus would heal his head.
The moment I said “amen” the boy sprang up, good as new and went right back in the game.
Pretty cool stuff.
Jesus is awesome and on the move and doing incredible things here in Guatemala! It’s surreal that the race has finally begun! Thanks for all the prayers and support!
Forever His,
Grace
