The Beginning.
The word beginning is defined: the point in time or space at which something starts.
When I began to think about going on the World Race one of the first thoughts I had was “This could be the ‘start’ of something great” or “I can’t wait to ‘start’ this adventure”. It solidified as a thought in my head that going on the world race would be the start of a change in me and a change I would be able to make in the world. It would “start” me on the road to a better person. One who is closer to God, who is more kind, more insightful, or more moldable. It was going to be the beginning. The start of a “new me”. It grew into this idea that the World Race is where all of this would begin. I thought “Once I go I will experience things that will change me.” “I will be able to change my mindset and my path in life once I do this.”
Then I read in Genesis 1:1 four simple words, “In the beginning God”. Hmm. Not in the beginning the world race. Not in the beginning when I had this amazing opportunity… In the beginning, GOD. Now I know these words are taken out of context and this verse is referring to God creating the world but, the FIRST beginning there ever was began because of God. So, why would MY beginning start with the World Race?
It doesn’t. My change starts today. And every day.
(Lamentations 3:22-23 “It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” ) The Lord’s mercies and compassions are new every morning. Every morning, I get my beginning all over again. Not because of the World Race but because of the un-expainable mercy and faithfulness of God. The start of change in me and change in the world has nothing to do with me or even the World Race. It is all about Him.
In the beginning GOD.
