It was exciting to get ready to come down to Tacloban, but it was tough saying goodbye to everyone we met and 2 of our teams. The night before we left a bunch of us made Pb&J sandwiches and packed the food bags for the trip.
So we left the YMC early on Wednesday, October 1st. We rode in a little bus for about an hour to the big bus station. We waited. Then we loaded our stuff and ourselves up. I was pretty excited that this bus had WiFi! But pretty soon I was just tired of being on the bus. We did make some stops, thank The Lord. I actually slept wayyy better than I thought I would. When I was awake, I was amazed at the beauty of God’s creation here.
Many hours later, we got off the bus and went to this waiting area. After awhile, we got onto a ferry. It was pretty awesome.
When we got off the ferry, we got back on the bus. A few hours later, we finally arrived at the bus stop. Then we waited for some people from The Lighthouse to pick us up. When we got to The Lighthouse, I think all of us took a siesta. It took 31 hours for us to get from the YMC to Tacloban.
The next day my team did a feeding in the morning and got a tour in the afternoon. Then on Saturday, (the day after)my team helped with cleaning The Lighthouse in the morning and did construction in the afternoon. We had to level out an insane mountain of dirt. I wish I had thought to take a before picture.
Sunday we went to church. Later in the day, we got our schedules. We do ministry as a team here, which is so great. So this is Team Selah’s schedule:
Monday: Cleaning at The Lighthouse (cleaning up after meals, cleaning the floors, and whatever else needs doing)
Tuesday: 9am feeding and 2pm feeding
Wednesday: 9am feeding and 2pm feeding
Night watch (3 shifts-9pm-12, 12-3am, 3am-6am; 2 people do one shift; walk around the perimeter of The Lighthouse with flashlights every 15 ish minutes)
Thursday: Off Day
Friday: Prayer/fishing boat
Saturday: Construction 8am-4pm (10 min break @ 10am; hour lunch @ noon; 10 min break @ 3pm)
Sunday: Church/Community Outreach
Pretty wicked schedule, I thought J
Much love,
