Lice, Lice, Lice
This month we are working at an orphanage in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. When we first got to Phnom Penh we were told
our ministry fell through so we had to wait for a few days until the coordinator
for this month’s ministries found something for us- which ended up being the
orphanage. For the past two weeks we
have attempted to teach the kids English, with some success. Usually after about 10 minutes of sitting and
learning they get distracted and start running around and going crazy. The other day the kids were off school so we
decided not to teach them English and to treat them to a movie on one of our
laptops.
We got there ready to show the kids a movie but it had to
wait because a Cambodian non-profit was coming to give the kids toothbrushes
and toothpaste. The people from the
non-profit came and gave the kids a demonstration on how to brush their
teeth. Apparently I definitely do not
brush the right way according to Cambodians.
They then told us they needed our help checking the kids for lice and
de-worming them. Yes lice and worms. We grabbed the gloves and a comb and went to
work checking for lice- only to find out that almost every single kid was
covered in lice. We are all now
professionals at treating lice.
We also got checked for lice, just in case, and so far we are
in the clear.
until flying home. The finish line is so close.
