go on a much needed man adventure to the river after lunch. So after killing the chicken we took a short
nap and waited for the truck to pick us up and take us down to the river. One of the jungle boys Juan (13 years old)
saw us getting ready to leave for the river and asked if he could come and we
said yes. It was a good thing we
did. Once we got to the river we jumped
off the bridge a few times. After that
Juan showed us all the other fun stuff to do at the river. After assuring us that there weren’t any
hidden rocks in the river we ended up diving into the water and jumping in the
rapids to be taken away by the current.

A little while later we asked Juan
if there were any cool trails along the river that we could explore. He told us there was a path along the river
and there was a waterfall at the end. We
were in. We made the trek to the
waterfall. At one point we only had a
rope to hold on to as we walked beside a 100 foot drop to the river below. The trail brought us to the middle of the
waterfall. So of course being the dumb
gringos we are we wanted to hike to the bottom of the waterfall and swim in the
river. We asked Juan if that was
possible and it said no and it was too dangerous, but we didn’t listen. We looked around and eventually found a way
down to the bottom. We told Juan of how
we thought we could get down and it said it was still dangerous. Eventually he found a small trail for us to
make it to the bottom. The whole way
down Juan would tell us “Cuidado” or to be careful. We made it about half way to the bottom and
it was so slippery we had to just sit down and scoot across the rocks so we
wouldn’t slip and fall. We scooted a
little further and all of a sudden Steven lost his grip and disappeared into
the bushes. At first Juan and I started
laughing because we thought he was still on the other side of the bushes but
then a few seconds later we heard a splash and saw Steven in the water about
40-50 feet below us. He ended up
slipping/sliding/and falling about 50 feet into the water below.

just laying in the water with his mouth covered in blood. Eventually he said he was okay just bruised
and cut up. Juan then told me not to
move and he climbed down to help Steven up to where I was. We have the whole thing on video. I wish
the internet was faster here so I could upload it. Next time we will listen to the jungle boys
when they say something is too dangerous.
We were so thankful it didn’t end up worse that it was.

a bath in the river then waited for the truck to pick us up and take us back to
our tree house. When we got back we got
a lecture from Ivan about going away from the bridge to the waterfall and not
wearing our mud boots.
