Goodbyes are hard but they often give you a glimpse into how the Lord has worked in and through you and the people around you. When we first came to Laredo we could sense some darkness over it, but I could definitely feel the Holy Spirit was present in the church and wanted to move. We felt some spiritual warfare and spent one night standing outside of the church lifting up the city of Laredo. In the morning we stood on the roof of our house worshipping and speaking truth and life over the city.
One way that the Holy Spirit is already moving in a big way is through the youth, or really young adults, of Laredo. The young men and women we met at the church have such a heart for the Lord and a desire to seek after Him. Ministry is relationships and we were so blessed and thankful for the relationships we were able to build this month.
A young woman at the church who is a teacher was such a blessing to us all. We had a girl’s night and she shared her story with us and gave us a glimpse of what God has placed on her heart for the city of Laredo. At one of the young men’s birthday party, a mother shared how having our teams here has been an encouragement to her son and that she was so grateful for us. On our last night in Laredo, the young man whose house five of us were staying at came in and read something that he had put through the Google translator. It was a testament to how the Lord used us, especially the men on our teams, in this young man’s life. He told us that he and his grandmother are the only Christians in his family and how sometimes it is difficult and that he wants to follow Jesus and he thanked us for all we have done. He was weeping as he finished reading and as we prayed over him. I know the five of us were praising God for this young man’s life and the humility he showed coming in and reading to us in a language he didn’t speak to express his gratitude and ask that we pray for his family.
Again I say that ministry is about relationships. The youth of Laredo became like our family, sharing their hearts and lives with us. We laughed, cried, danced, and worshipped with them. I know the Lord is going to use them in a mighty way to continue to bring is light and truth to the city of Laredo.
