On Monday we head to South Africa with a layover in Qatar.  We will be in the town of Plettenberg Bay working with a organization that does surf and sports ministries for underprivileged kids.  We will be running some sports camps for two schools in the area while they are on summer break.  Soccer and netball – here we come!
Now without further ado, never have I ever:

  • Ridden on a commuter train
  • Woke up to the sound of horses hooves on the pavement
  • Sat in on an adoption process via Skype (my team leader, Evan was given permission to be skyped into his little brother’s adoption finalization and we got to be there too…it was so awesome).
  • Had to watch out for horse poop as I crossed a main road
  • Taught English. In Albania to college students and in Romania to elementary aged students.  Both were great experiences, but my favorite was teaching the parts of the body to the children in Romania using the song “Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes” and laughing because their favorite body part to shout was “stomach”.
  • Served soup and tea to homeless elderly men and women with china plates and china mugs.
  • Been to a castle
  • Been on 2 scavenger hunts in a two week period – one I officiated for my teammate Jenna’s birthday in Albania and one was with our whole squad in Bucharest, talk about a great way to see the city
  • Had eggs and cinnamon stack pancakes on Thanksgiving Day
  • Cooked for 14 people – much more difficult than cooking for one person but fun to sit around a big table every night sharing a meal
  • Been to the Adriatic Sea
  • Missed my family and friends so much (the holidays is a little rougher than I expected)
  • Got my haircut in another country
  • Worked with college students
  • Had to wear a sweater, a fleece, a rain jacket, and a scarf inside
  • Had to light the stove and oven with a match
  • Eaten a chestnut
  • Shared my testimony on the side of the road
  • Played soccer with gypsy children with rocks for goal posts
  • Declared truth out loud in front of 50+ people
  • Stepped into new realizations about who I am in Christ – learning how to continually walk in that
