Starting on this past Thursday, my team and I set out to Palenque from Matamoros for our first leg of the race. They dropped us off in some random area in Matamoros on a bus and counted down from three and said go….. and we were off!!!!!!! Everyone was scrambling around with their bags trying to find taxis. My team, though, ventured to a near by park to strategize. After a couple of hours of coming up with no ride to Matamoros, we decided to grab a bus like everyone else. We grabbed our tickets and left 3 hours after all the other teams. We traveled for 38 hrs on a bus. It was grueling, but fun. Throughout this time, I was able to meet some great people, bond more with my teammates, eat some amazing tacos, and discover the joys of sleeping on the ground of a Mexican bus station… it was fantastic!
Those are my two teammates Bri and Talia. Also, try and find the girl in the orance jacket passed out… um because that is me!?!?
When we arrived in to Palenque, my team and I thought we had for sure lost, but we came to discover that there was still a chance because the ruins didn’t open till a certain hour. So my team was off racing to the ruins for our final destination. We stood in line with all the other teams to buy tickets. We were the last ones to get tickets, but with our adrenaline running high, we sprinted with all we had up the ruins to claim second place for our team.
