Our final day in Georgia we we’re
challenged to get together as a team, spend some time in prayer, and go
wherever we felt God was leading us to go in order to minister to His people.
So we (Team Habibi) got together and spent sometime listening to God. Some
people on my team saw visions of a park with rings, waterfalls, and fountains.
Having no idea what this was exactly we turned to Google and typed in “parks
with waterfalls in Atlanta” then a picture popped up of a park which was very
similar to what many of the people in our group had seen. So all seven of us
pilled into Michelle’s pickup and headed off to this park in downtown Atlanta.
After
wondering around the park for a while we all seemed pretty discouraged and
lost, so we split up into three different groups. I went out with Ryan and
Aimee and since we were still feeling pretty lost we sat down awkwardly on a
bench and kind of tried to talk to people. After a while we began walking when
we ran into another team from S-squad who was holding up “Free Hug” signs and
we noticed how it really opened up a door to talk to people. Instead of having
to go out and try to speak to people who didn’t seem that interested people
came running to them. So the three of us copied their idea and made signs of
our own. It was crazy the number of people who wanted hugs and came flocking
towards us.
Because of
our simple act of love and our reaching out to people several doors were open
into several different people’s lives. In a time of about 3 hours our team
hugged over 200 people and we were able to pray with somewhere near 50. During
this short time I felt truly touched by the number of people that were willing
to offer the love we were giving in Jesus’ name and how much love was given to
us in return.
At the end of
the day when it was time to head back to camp we lowered our signs and walked
with them hanging at our sides and still people kept running to us wanting to
hug us and even more than before people wanted to hear our story and share
theirs with us. So we sacrificed being late and sat down to talk with people,
pray with families, and hug the police officers on our way out of the park. Love
is such an amazing thing and I was so excited to share this with people of Atlanta.
