Hello All,
I’m sure most of you have heard of the internet trend “just girly things” well these last ten days I have been at training camp for the world race and I realized that there is so many things you see at training camp that you are unlikely to see anywhere else. I call this list “just training camp things”:
- rice with every meal
- having your chaco strap perfectly cover your toe hair
- dragging your airporter around the airport
- becoming gradually less phased by the presence of spiders
- burning your right hand in the food on India day
- guys wearing maxi dresses to fit dress code
- deciding whether you love or hate washing dishes because the water is so refreshingly cold but you’re also being forced to touch wet food
- mistaking feet coated with red Georgia dirt for a chaco tan
- Announcing to your entire squad when you finally poop
- unanticipated sweat stains
- feeling obligated to always say “thank you for sharing” in response to any and everything
- makeshift eye masks for airport simulation night
- preparing yourself for the first dump of the freezing cold water in the bucket showers
- rewearing each shirt at least 3 times
- realizing that its so humid what gets wet will never dry
- sitting around the campfire even though its already a hundred degrees
- coming out of your tent in the morning only to realize you and a squad mate are wearing the same elephant pants. awkward.
The list could go on. This last ten days has shown me a lot of what to expect for the next nine months. God showed me what intense Christ centered community is like through my squad and team mates. He showed me what it means to worship passionately and so that I meant every single word that escaped my lips. He taught me how to forgive, and to communicate affectively. Most importantly, he showed me what its means to be intimate with Him. I am so excited to embark on this spiritual journey and learn what it means to build the kingdom.
