We arrived at our ministry site on Wednesday, April 6. We
are living for this week in Kajang, Malaysia at a mission house that belongs to
the church we are ministering with. Before I go into that, a lot has happened
since last month.
Australia was awesome. Although in some ways, the spiritual
warfare there was even worse than in Patong, Thailand in the bars. Satan was
trying to work his way into our lives in Australia in more subtle ways. It was
difficult to sense it, but we all knew that something was wrong. After we
realized that it was just Satan trying to get a hold of the little things, like
us being sick, or the mold that wouldn’t let our clothes dry, or just being in
uncomfortable situations, whatever the case, we called him out and told him
that he had no power over even the little things J
God had control and really wanted to teach us a lot about
obedience last month. I had prayed a lot for God to help me step out and be
bolder in my faith, and to be able to incorporate Jesus into all my
conversations, even if it wasn’t “ministry.” BUT, instead, He wanted to teach
me how to be obedient with the situations He’s put me in already. We were able
to show our obedience to Him by picking weeds, by doing silly skits, and by
praying over Airlie Beach. God has a lot planned for Australia and it was
humbling to be used to help further HIS kingdom there!
After leaving Australia, again, like I always say, travel
days were a HEADACHE! We went to Darwin and now team Lit2Blaze is no more, BUT
God used those people to make me grow in ways I never knew I needed to change!
I’m blessed for the time that we had together and what we learned from each
other and how God was all over our team! We praised Him together, cried a lot,
served him without inhibition, and love each other like Christ loves us. Now,
with high hopes, team Salty Sheep will go over and above what we were able to
do over the past 3 months. God will teach us each new things that we need to
learn and hopefully use us in ways we never thought possible.
New team: Lauren Black, Justin Hanes, Tiffany Hanes, Chelsea
Cordell, Chelsea O’Leary, Michael Hall, and Me. YAY team SALTY SHEEP!!! Baaaaaa
Now, what God has been doing in my heart over the past few
weeks….well, growing up in the Southern Baptist denomination, I never really
heard much about the Holy Spirit other than that we receive Him when we accept
Jesus. There is so much more to Him than that J
I’ve been praying a lot to be able to experience ALL of God. I feel like God
and I are on the verge of something big. And I’m ready and waiting for that,
all the while drawing nearer to Him on a daily basis. Even in the small things God is using me and
asking me to step out of the norm. Example: me giving a “sermon” at youth the
other night. Crazy J
Our team is worked this month with an Assembly of God church
in Malaysia for one week. We basically did church/youth group ministry and
encouraged other Christians to step out for Christ. They speak English so
that’s a bonus! For a lot of Malaysian families though, even Christians, it’s
hard to give up future plans or money for the cause of Christ. Parents
sometimes object to college aged kids wanting to do missions. They’re afraid of
the cost it will take to do something “big” for Jesus. I feel blessed to be
able to take a trip like this and have my family and friends support me fully!
Currently we are in Northern Malaysia about 5 minutes from
the Thailand border. We plan on going with some church leaders to the jungle
tomorrow. We’ll take a 2 ½ hour boat ride to the natives to give out food and
maybe clothing. Apparently before the pastor started going out to these people,
they didn’t even wear clothes besides a small piece of cloth to cover them.
Sounds like something off of National Geographic to me. A lot of them are
expected to come for prayers for healing, so I’m excited to see God work in
OBVIOUS ways tomorrow J
Can’t wait.
Next post will have more pictures, but internet is scarce in
rural Malaysia, so bear with me 😉
Love you guys and miss you! Please keep me in your prayers
and expect another post soon!
Love from Malaysia,
Genae
