Although Australia and the United States are similar in some ways…There are many things that don’t translate well to the culture here π
DO say “Gooday”
DON’T expect to see Kangaroos :/
DO wear Crocs in the kitchen. Knives can stab your feet.
DON’T tell somebody they look “cute” (apparently that means ugly, but interesting looking)
DO wear your seatbelt. At. All. Times.
DON’T wear U.S. sunscreen….trust me. Something about a hole in the Ozone….I don’t know.
DO be very sarcastic when talking to Australians
DON’T go swimming without a “stinger suit”
DO believe people when they tell you that everything in Australia is poisonous and will kill you.
DON’T put your shoes in the wrong bucket when going ocean rafting. You will NEVER see them again π
DO go ocean rafting (we almost got slung out of our boat at 35 mph multiple times. Probably not one of the safest things we chose to do….but FUN)
DON’T do anything illegal…like sticking your arms out of the van window. They like fines in this country.
DO bring lots of money. An apple pie at McDonalds is $2.85 for crying out loud.
DON’T touch children. High fives MIIIIIGHT be acceptable.
DO try to play a didgeridoo. Not as easy as it looks.
DON’T wash your clothes on a rainy day. Mold infestations are not fun.
DO try a TimTam Slam π I’ll tell you how to do it if you’ve never heard!
DON’T call a fanny pack a fanny pack. “FANNY” has a different meaning here. lol
DO go Great Barrier Reef snorkeling….But don’t forget your Australian sunscreen!
DON’T try the Vegimite. N.A.S.T.Y.
One week and we’re off to Malaysia! π please pray for my team as team changes could be happening next week. God’s got it in His hands…
