Man, I still can’t believe that this is happening…11 countries in 11 months…are we crazy? I’m so excited to be able to have this opportunity! Let me tell you a little bit about myself! My name is Maria Genae Lanier, I go by Genae. The name gives some people a hard time, but trust me you’ll get it ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m from a small town in Alabama called Alexander City. Those of us from there lovingly refer to it as “Elec City” don’t ask me why?! I worked at a daycare in Alex City for about 7 years and I still miss those kids dearly!

I’m 24 years old and I recently moved with my roommate Anna to the good ‘ol state capital, Montgomery, AL. It’s pretty neat living downtown and being able to go out and take strolls around the capital building or by the Montgomery Biscuits stadium (minor league baseball team lol).  If you’re from Alabama you know that one of the top 5 questions ppl ask you when they meet you is “Auburn or Alabama?” Well, I have to say War Eagle on that one! ๐Ÿ™‚ I graduated in spring of ’09 from Auburn University Montgomery with a degree in International Business. Right now I’m using my degree in absolutely no way! haha, I work at a doctor’s office but I love it and it’s interesting to say the least.

I have a beautiful family and we are super quirky and fun. We support each other completely! My dad is the music minister at my home church, my mom is a college Spanish teacher and my brother and sister-in-law work at a Methodist camp in Gallant, AL. I have the world’s best dog named Willow (no not after the movie, it’s after a city in Alaska).

I’m not really sure what to write in here so you can get to know me but those are the basics and now I’ll give some randomness:

    • My favorite movies are the OLD Planet of the Apes
    • I played violin growing up but would rather sing in a heartbeat
    • My sister-in-law and I have the same initials (she stole mine)
    • My music taste has no bounderies, although I do have favorites
    • I love my Pontiac Firebird even if it is sort of redneck
    • I was indeed homeschooled. Bring on the jokes ๐Ÿ™‚
    • I went to Egypt in ’08 and think it’s one of the most awesome places to visit
    • My look is very earthy/funky/businessy/emo/preppy/hippie. Basically I’ll wear any style (good news b/c I see T’shirts in most of our futures lol)
    • I thoroughly love painting my fingernails
    • I am the world’s worst dancer. Oddly enough, my roommate is a dance major.
    • I sang in high school and college show choir
    • I’m a picky eater…(why did I decide to do this again? haha jk!!)
    • I vote outdoors over inside anyday
    • I’m very very competitive but a good loser ( always lose when I talk smack beforehand)
    • I’m typically refered to as “one of the guys”
    • I might randomly bust into a valley girl voice, but so all of you know, it is a joke. I am NOT really talking like that. omg

Overall, I’m SOO ready to go on the WR, but I will miss everybody back home more than they can imagine. God has called me to a greater cause and I am honored to get this chance. I’m ready to step out and do something with my life that’s only for God’s glory. I’m ready to make myself decrease so He can increase. I’m ready to pour out what I’ve been given throughout my life. Thank you to everybody involved in my life and those of you who will be for the next year. I can’t wait for this journey to start!
    Peace.
