I’m learning that ministry can look like anything. Literally. I spent the first two weeks of the World Race helping our ministry host move to a house across town. And it was beautiful. I think I learned more in those two weeks than I think I could in a month of whatever comes to mind when you think ‘ministry’.

Our beautiful ministry host- Mrs. Beth, co-runs a ministry organization called Conexion that serves the children and families of Costa Rica by providing fun for the children as well as free medical clinics and Biblical education. Beth is an American who moved here ten years ago with her family and shortly after, the organization was born!

If you’ve never moved house before or done it without a moving truck/crew, it’s hard. The week started with us gathering all of Mrs. Beth’s things from the three-story old house into suitcases, moving boxes, plastic tubs, garbage bags- really anything that we could find that could consolidate everything. We then cleaned the house, the furniture and started the process of actually moving.

By the end of the week everything was boxed up, ready to be put into 5 vehicles; two 12 passenger vans, a pickup truck, a jeep, and a small U-Haul-like moving truck. For the next week, the team worked together to load up several trips and unpack all over again at the new house. I enjoyed unpacking more than the initial packing since it was more about organization than mass consolidation.

Although it was hard knowing other teams were starting ministry involving the expected children’s ministry and intervening with a safe house for prostitutes, this was fulfilling in its own way.

I’m learning that ministry doesn’t have to be flashy to be a ministry. Learning that helping Beth relocate actually saved her so much time and work on her end. Learning that our quick work made her life just a little bit easier so she could pour more energy into her job.

Learning that just because we weren’t directly seeing an impact- doesn’t mean there wasn’t one.

Sometimes all that needs to change is your mindset, then you can see the world through Jesus’ eyes. Humbly serving wherever you are needed because that’s what love looks like.
