Hey Racer –

Here are a few quick updates about a company we’re going to partner with and some answers to questions about what life on campus will be like!

I Am Healthy Today Company:

We’re excited to announce we’re going to be working with I Am Healthy Today (IAHT) this fall to combat Covid!

So, why does that matter?

Monday morning you’ll receive a text and an email from IAHT asking you to fill out a 5-minute initial health screening about your medical history. Make sure to fill this out by Monday evening at the latest.

All responses to this screening (and all further screenings) are completely confidential and will not be shared with anyone on staff. This screening is designed to ask you about your past and current health situation to develop a baseline of health.

Once you complete the screening, beginning on Tuesday at 6am EST you will receive a daily text from IAHT. It will be a link to a very short (think 20-30 seconds) health checker assessment. This will evaluate potential Covid symptoms. You will receive this text daily, and you have until 12pm EST each day, to fill out your check. After your assessment, you’ll receive a green, yellow, or red “shield.”

You will receive this same exact health checker every day leading up to registration and for the duration of your time on campus.

What does this health check do?

Green Shield: Every day, if you don’t exhibit symptoms of Covid, you’ll be awarded a “green shield” which means that you’re able to keep going with your day.

Yellow Shield: If you’re awarded a “yellow shield”, you’ll receive a call from an unknown number (an IAHT team member, so pick up!) 10-15 minutes immediately following your survey to determine if you should talk to a doctor.

Red Shield: You’ll receive a FaceTime call (again, from an unknown number – this time, it’s a doc!) from a doctor to take you through a health assessment. You will be asked to take a Covid test (that will be shipped to you overnight, costing $150 that you can file with your primary insurance) and should receive the results of that test within 3 days. You will also be quarantined in a separate housing facility to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you.

If you end up testing negative, you’ll be good to rejoin your squad! If you test positive for Covid, you’ll remain quarantined until you are no longer symptomatic for a period of time.

Check out this sweet vid for more details about IAHT. Also, just so ya know, IAHT was originally developed for schools, but they’ve adapted their process just for us!

Life on Campus Deets:

We know you probably have a ton more questions about what life on campus will be like this fall. Here’s some quick answers to several of your questions!

  • Insurance: Today, our team received notice from our insurance provider letting us know that, unfortunately, they will not cover any Covid-related issues you may experience this Fall or next Spring. We understand this is challenging news. While insurance companies will vary in their coverages, we suggest staying on your primary insurance while on Gap Year.

  • Coffee: Coffee, creamer, and sugar will be provided for you each morning should you choose to purchase it. The cost is $1 (take that, Starbucks!) Cash only, so come prepared with $$. You will need to bring your own mug (coffee limit will be 16 ounces.)

  • Bucket showers: We want to prepare you for the mission field, so you will start off your semester by taking bucket showers. Don’t worry, we’ll teach you how! (And don’t worry, it will only be the first few weeks while we finish building showers for you…)

  • Laundry: True to being overseas, you will be hand washing your clothes. We will provide detergent and a line to dry them. Get ready to live like the locals do!

  • Mail: You can send absentee ballots to our campus, 6000 Wellspring Trail, Gainesville GA 30506. All other mail can be directed to your Squad Mentor’s house (if the mail situation gets out of control, we may have to make amendments.) NO PACKAGES!! Address TBA!

  • Packages: In October you will be able to receive 1 small to medium sized package (you’ll be traveling home for the holidays in November and December, so Santa can send packages to your house during that time!) Packages must be mailed to your Squad Mentor’s house. Address TBA!

  • Covid testing can begin today! Don’t forget – make sure you ask for proof of your negative Covid test! If your testing site cannot give you proof, make sure to bring the form we emailed with you to registration. Don’t forget to bring the Acknowledgement of Risk form to registration as well!

  • The $7,500 fundraising deadline is this Thursday! At this point, you will need to inform your advisor of any incoming donations that will not process in time.

We will send you one final email Friday, August 28th, with details about airport shuttles, registration guidelines and answer any other questions you may have! In the meantime, please reach out to your Admissions advisor with any questions or concerns!

Thanks!
