In Pt. 1, I talked about my first experience with someone being healed after praying for them. And that was just the beginning. God did some amazing things this month…I had been praying for and pursuing increase–increase of His presence in my life, increase encounters, increase healings–just more of Him in every way. And He showed up.
It was our first sunday in India. It was a full day of ministry. That night, after dark, we went to one of the slums to have worship, share testimonies and a message, and pray for people afterwards. They were always eager to receive prayer, almost everyone lining up and waiting their turn. Jessica and I were somehow paired up again and a woman came up to us asking for prayer. Through one of the brother’s translating, we found out that she had pain in her body, especially her back. So we prayed and then we asked her how she was doing. Our translator communicated to us that she said the pain was gone! Praise Jesus!
After we finished praying for the people in the slum, we were told as we were climbing into the car that we would be going to an apartment to pray for a family. The father had fallen down an elevator shaft, 5 stories. It was amazing that he had survived, but he was left paralyzed from the legs down. The doctors told him that he would never walk again. We were being informed about the family, though some of the details remain unclear with the language barrier. He and his family had either just become christians, or were Hindu’s but close to giving their lives to Christ. We were told this story while waiting for the elevator and as we crammed 5 people onto this tiny cage elevator (no such thing as personal space) one of the brothers said as he was closing the gate, “This is the elevator shaft he fell down”.
SAY WHAT?! “Dear God help us now” was what was going through our heads. We clung to each other and prayed as we rattled up to the 5th floor.
Obviously we made it to the top, and when we entered the family’s apartment, we were greeted by his smiling family (though he was not smiling). They offered us cookies and pepsi as we sat and Megan gave an on-the-spot message. Afterwards, we gathered around the father, anniointing him with oil and praying for healing. We were receiving words that the Lord would use this man to spread the kingdom…confirmation for words that the brothers had received in previous visits to pray for him.
We sang songs over him such as “break every chain” and as our prayers and singing quieted, we felt that we should ask him to stand…he had not stood or walked in months. He is helped to his feet and one step…two steps…three. He slowly starts making his way across the room. He has barely even been able to stand. He couldn’t move his left leg and yet here he was, beginning to walk. With each step he took, we rejoiced with singing and clapping, our prayers growing stronger.
His face beamed as did the faces of his family.
Fast forward, it was our last night of ministry and two of the brothers took us to a new slum. As we walked over piles of trash, we realized that this slum was not like the other. It was bigger, there were no lights…we made our way around visiting people outside of their homes to pray for them. We made our way to an elderly man who was laying on a cot outside. His family helped him up but I noticed that with every movement, he groaned in pain. His knees were bent and he was doubled over in pain. He could not even support himself. He asked for prayer for his back and all-over body pain. Taylor and I had him sit down as we prayed for him. Afterwards, we got one of the brothers to translate. This man’s pain was gone! He stood up and started walking around. He stood up straight. He no longer groaned in pain with every movement. It was incredible to see the transformation right before our eyes. Afterwards we prayed for his wife who had back pain and pain in her hands–probably arthritis. Before we even got a translation she was showing us her hands, with a smile on her face and tears in her eyes. We learned that she too had received healing. As we left to pray for other families, she took my hands in hers and placed her hand on my cheek. It was such a sweet moment to see the joy of this couple as they experienced the Lord’s healing. And this wasn’t even the end. Not to discount the other miracles, because they were equally as exciting, I will just summarize what happened (somehow my blogs always seem to get so long!).
I was able to pray for many people, a man who suffered from fits, a girl who’s father was an alcoholic and more…And I was able to pray with some teammates for two other women who had back pain and body pain, and they too received the Lords healing. Each time our brother said that they had received healing, I literally said out loud, “No way!!” I was probably just as surprised as they were. I mean, I know that God heals and that he uses us to be His hands, but actually experiencing it–well, it was just BLOWING MY MIND.
This is our God. He is SO GOOD.
I still have about $4500 to raise by Jan 1st in order to continue on the race.
