In honor of walking into my 23rd year around the sun here in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia I thought I’d share with you 23 things that I’ve learned being in Mongolia for the past month.
-
First and foremost, I’ve learned I do NOT have a taste of the very common choice of meat…sheep.
-
Mongolians love meat
-
People don’t visit east Mongolia much. I think the should, the people are kind and it’s said to have flavorful grass. (If you’d like a taste analysis, ask Jen or Annie)
-
Believers give everything to love the Lord
-
Mongolians don’t like things that are too sweet
-
Love goes deeper than language
-
Karaoke lounges are all the rage, there’s probably 2-3 on every block
-
Contrary to #5 in UB there’s an ice cream stand on every other corner
-
Vulnerability is something you must choose
-
It’s completely normal for children to do their business on the sidewalk
-
The coffee is incredible
-
I’ve learned to find ministry in the mundane tasks
-
Prayer is so powerful and I learn that more and more everyday
-
You can only know people for a month, want to love them well and have them know they are loved (@ my team. Love you Wild)
-
Growth doesn’t equate to weakness
-
GOD GIVES US THE BLESSING OF A FATHER
-
Community is necessary for Kingdom
-
Everyday is an adventure day, you can find Kingdom everywhere you go
-
Mongolians treasure the countryside (it quite clear why too)
-
The traditional Mongolian home is pronounced “ghert” not “yurt” and yes people do still live in them
-
Fermented horse milk is a delicacy
-
The Church in Mongolia is genuine, authentic and determined
-
I’ve learned I love this country more than I ever thought I possibly could.
See you in China! (:
