Sarah,
I told myself I wasn’t going to cry while I typed this post, but it’s already happening. YOU’RE 15 YEARS OLD! WHAT?!?!
I looked up some events that took place 15 years ago and here’s what I got:
– Kelly Clarkson won the 1st season of American Idol
– The U.S. began it’s invasion on Afghanistan after the events of 9/11
– Ben Affleck was voted Sexiest Man Alive by people magazine
– Disney released Lilo and Stitch
– 40 million people were infected with AIDs worldwide
– An asteroid nearly hit the earth
– and, Steve Fossett became the first person to fly solo around the word (nonstop) in a balloon.
So yeah, 2002 seemed like a pretty eventful year… I wouldn’t remember any of this though, because I was only 3 years old at the time. But what I do remember is you. I remember going up to mom and rubbing her belly and asking when baby “Jordan” would arrive. Well your name’s not Jordan is it?
*SIDE NOTE* I don’t know where I got the name Jordan from, but mom didn’t like it for a first name. So she put it as Sarah’s middle name and added an e (accent aigu) on the end. Like this:

I remember getting to hold you the day you were born and I imagine that you looked something like this:

*ANOTHER SIDE NOTE* Each year for Sarah’s birthday, I give her a copy of this photo. It’s an inside joke between us.
Anyways, on October 29th, 2002 I remember being proud to be your big sister, and that’s something I’ve felt everyday since then. Not being with you today is so tough for me, because I want to be so badly. I wanted to be able to wake you up by banging pots and pans like I used to when we were little (But you would’ve liked it this time because I would’ve screamed “Happy Birthday” at you also), and take you out on one of our dates to the Yellow Deli. Mom told me that you guys went to the Melting Pot to celebrate, so I guess that’s pretty good too.
You’re my best friend, booboo. The person that I can constantly rely on to go out to eat with me – even when I have to pay, steal my clothes, and tell me when I look bad. (Because you know I’d do so the same for you <3) BTW: I bet you’re wearing something of mine right now.
We’ve always been there for each other. When we were younger I used to get annoyed because we were literally with each other EVERYDAY, but that’s something that I miss now. We’re an ocean apart but you’re always in my heart. (Cheesy rhyme) But seriously, I’m always there for you when you need me. I may not be able to help you with your math homework every night, but I can tell you how much you’re LOVED and maybe help you out with your math homework every now and then too. I haven’t had a math class in almost 6 months though, so I don’t know how much help I’d be.
I can’t believe you’re 15 years old today! I guess maybe it’s because you’re barely 5 ft tall; but it’s probably because for a 15 year old, you’re the most kind hearted, patient, and loving person I’ve ever met. AND I HAVE YOU AS MY SISTER.
You have a heart of gold and being your big sister brings me so much joy. I know I’m 3 years older, but sometimes I forget because of how smart you are. You’ve taught me so much about gentleness and love, and what it means to have a servant heart.
Thank you for always being my favorite source of laughter, wrestling partner, confidant, and counselor. For being the person who understands me better than anyone else. Thank you for the special moments, the hard moments, and a million favorite memories that will never fade. For closeness, honesty, and allowing me to see things more clearly.
For being one of most precious people in my life.
You are so beautiful baby, inside and out. One of my biggest prayers for you is that you’d know that you’re always loved and never alone. It’s unfathomable to me that I could love you so much; and yet, the Lord loves you so much more. I hope you find so much JOY today, Sarah. YOU’RE 15!!!!! YAY!!!!!
