Mission Impossible:
Missionaries. It’s a loose term really.
What do I mean by that?
Before I go and break down walls we as Christians have put up to separate one fellow believer from another, I want to say I have enormous respect for missions, missionaries and anyone who has left their comfortable and literally walked into the unknown holding a bible and carrying the presence of God in areas that are downright hard. Missions holds a place in my heart because its people being obedient to God in their life whatever the cost. Mad respect.
Now that I have totally messed up my point, I want to take my sweet time in explaining something God has put on my heart.
When I was younger and people asked kids what we wanted to be when we grew up some kids would say they want to be a doctor, a truck driver, a dancer or a missionary. Huh. I get it, mission work can be a career.
But Jesus didn’t come to give some people a career and others a side job.
God has so much more then that for us. He doesn’t want a title, He wants His child. He doesn’t want the “I have to make my Father proud”, why so many go on missions trips because they want to be the good kid, He just wants the child. If you are a believer of Jesus Christ you are a missionary, whatever you are doing and wherever you are. You have been commissioned to go, You have been commissioned to be witnesses.
When I was in South Africa the organization has a quote they say all the time, “ministry isn’t just when you are on the field but it is a posture of the heart” and as you will recall in past blogs the world race taught me that ministry is life and life is ministry. There is no clock in clock out, it’s just who you are and who God created you to be. I could care less of how many things you do as a missionary or in ministry I care about if you are loving Jesus and loving people. Every human is created differently, duh because God wants to reach ALL people. The bank teller, the astronaut, the dancer, the truck driver, the Muslim, the nomad, the children, the homeless, the famous, the person sitting next to you on the bus ect…and they are all different.
You are a part of missions when you pray for others. You are a part of missions when you give financially to the church and when a neighbor is in need of food. You are a part of missions when you use your gifts to serve the Lord, no matter where you are. You are a part of missions when you speak of the eternity you share with an incredible God that loves you. You are part of missions when you plant seeds for God to grow. You are a part of a mission that is worldwide and down the street yet connected by its foundation. You are a part of missions when you give your whole life to Jesus Christ. I could go on and on and on but I think you get the point.
Jesus didn’t come to earth to make missionaries, He came to love, serve and save His children. We have that same mission!
“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen ( Matthew 28:18-20)
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be my witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8)
“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible’.” (Matthew 19:26 26)
The mission is not impossible after all.
Thank You to the missionaries that went with me to Africa and beyond by partnering in prayer or in giving. YOU were a part of sharing Jesus’ love. YOU were part of sharing the gospel to many families and individuals and some coming into the family! YOU were a part of lives changing in light of Jesus Christ. YOU were part of raising up the next generation to seek the Lord in all they do. YOU are the ammunition, without it, the weapon is useless. Thank YOU for living a life of generosity and desiring to spread the Kingdom of God to the ends of the earth. Thank YOU for living a life with eternity in mind. I pray God blesses you and reveals more of Himself to you as you walk this crazy journey called life with Him.
love, Gabby
