You get a Bible, you get a Bible, EVERYONE gets a Bible!
This is my dream for a school we have been doing ministry at this month.
We have had the amazing chance to be immersed in a little community outside of Kigali, Rwanda. We begin our day by teaching little four and five year olds how to count to ten and say their ABCs. We have also introduced them to duck, duck, goose (which was a hit) and the hokey pokey. When it is time for the littles to have a snack we head out to our second school of the day.
This school is full of children, 920 to be exact. They range in age from around eight to eighteen. They are so excited to see us mzungus (white people) walk through the gate every day. It takes us about ten minutes to actually make it to the blacktop to play games because every singe student wants to give us a hug and tell us good morning. We play basketball, football, and I have made some special friendships with the teachers.
After we hang out during recess we have the opportunity to talk to each class about the love of Jesus. Many of these children have not heard of Jesus. Some have, but don’t know they can have a personal relationship with the God that created them. Yesterday, after sharing the gospel we had countless children express that they want to know God, and want a relationship with Him. YES AND AMEN!
One boy even found our translator and asked if we could go visit his mother and share with her about Jesus. Of course we did, and she prayed to rededicate her life to Chist that afternoon!
These children have such an impact on their community. Because of this boy’s bravery, his mom now has made the greatest decision of her life. We were talking about what a blessing it has been to be with these kids everyday, and we don’t want the stories of Jesus to stop when we leave. We want them to continue to grow in their love for the Lord and be pillars of faith in their county.
That’s when we had the idea to give every student in the school a bible. We want these students to always have access to the Word. We want them to dive in deep, learn the character of God, the redemption of our lives through Jesus, and the way we are called to love. Sure, 920 bibles is a lot of bibles, but I believe the Lord wants us to pray big. I believe He would love to put His word in the hand of each and every child and teacher at that school.
Our prayer is that even when the mzungus leave, the stories of Jesus don’t.
If you would like to be a part of this bible distribution we would greatly appreciate your contribution! They will be about $5 per Bible. Our teams plans to go and pick the bibles up this week! If you are wanting to make a contribution, please venmo Cristin Ratkowski at: @Cristin-Ratkowski
If you do not have venmo and are still interested in contributing, please leave a comment or send an email and we can figure something out!
Thank you so much!!!
