JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL…
Yesterday was an amazing day. I started my first real big girl adult job, working for
Century Ambulance Service as an EMT. It started off with a check list of the truck for
supplies, met all the crew, cleaned the station, and relaxed until the radio sounded.
Not much longer and the call came! My first call and being the third rider and a
newbie I jumped in the back of the truck and was ready to go. The senior EMT came
out the door and said, “Why are you in back, you’re driving!”
JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL…
He took it! I drove fine. We arrived at the scene quickly and safely.
Your life can change in an instant. Being part of the EMS field, I am given the
privilege to step into someone’s life at some of the most vulnerable times.
Something happens and they need us, they need us to save them. Similarly, I need
God. I need and desire for God to step into my life at my most vulnerable times and
save me.
My shift continued to go well throughout the day. We got back to the station after a
late call and my commander pointed out that we were in a severe weather watch
and it would be best not to leave unless you have to. I knew I had class the next day
and needed to get home so I looked up the weather forecast. I was driving south
towards home and the weather appeared to still be north of us. I decided to go, to
leave the station and try and beat the storm. I was wrong! Instead of beating the
storm, I drove straight through it. I got on the Interstate, going about 45mph in the
right-hand lane and prayed for God to get me home safely. Not even 5 minutes later,
out of nowhere, a tree appeared. The tree had fallen across both lanes and …
JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL …
He took it, literally!!! I swerved to avoid the tree and was able to avoid the main
trunk, only hitting a few large branches. I then began to pray for God to help me get
home and calm the storm. Slowly and carefully I made my way home. I inspected my
car and there was NOT ONE SCRATCH! I went inside to find I had no power, but
thankful that I was alive. I called my mom and told her the story and she went on to
tell me that she had a terrible feeling a few minutes prior to my call and began to
pray for me to get home safe. Crazy enough, she got that feeling at about the same
time I almost hit the tree. Jesus took the wheel of my vehicle and protected me last
night. He heard the prayers being sent up and responded.
I pray right now that JESUS TAKE THE WHEEL. Take the wheel of my life and all
those around me and protect and keep us enveloped in his arms. I am so extremely
thankful that I serve a God who protects me and loves me. He hears my prayers,
steps into my life, and saves me. Just as I hear the radio of a 911 call and take a step
into a patient’s life and do everything I can to help them.
