Being my own story…
As I researched the world race and truly questioned whether or not it was something I could or even wanted to do, I found myself comparing. I began to compare my life to others lives around me, including people I didn’t even know. I wanted their stories to be my story. The truth is we all do this at some point in our lives. We look around and see wonderful things that people are doing and accomplishing and we are envious. We naturally as humans desire to be admired and praised for the good things we do and accomplish in our lives. This to be honest has been a big struggle for me throughout my Christian walk. We see people in the church or even outside of the church that accomplish greatness and even some that have greatness gifted to them and we question our worth and ability. We ask, “ why not me?” “Why am I not the one chosen to accomplish that world-changing task or why am I not the one who is given the credit for what I do?”
The truth is however that when we take this perspective on life and on our walk with God we begin to redefine Christianity. Instead of growing to become more like Jesus we are beginning to mold Jesus into our image. When this happens instead of worshipping Jesus we begin to worship ourselves.
So how do we fix this?
We first must realize that it is a dangerous assumption to believe we can accomplish what we were made for by our own ability. We must abandon our own ability and cling to God and realize our inadequacy to do anything on our own. The trick to being your story is being his first. Our plans must be swallowed up in God’s. We must realize that when we align our hearts and minds with Gods, he is going to work in and through us to accomplish His goal.
Yes this looks different in every single person. Some people were meant to be great teachers and preachers and others meant to serve in a role not so broadcast. However we are all called to one thing and that is to LOVE.
One thing that this journey has already taught me is that every person has a different story. One person’s story may seem more glamorous and loud but each story regardless of its content holds the same value to God. He has written our stories and we are his masterpieces. So my story may not be flashy and bold but it’s my story and it makes me who I am.
So I encourage each of you to own your story and know that God has written it specifically for you. You are a beautiful, unique piece of artwork that He handcrafted. He loves you unconditionally because you are His, so never be ashamed of your story!!
