Hey everyone!
My new team and I are settling into life here in Asia, and we have officially survived our first week.
We live in a really small town at the tip top of Malaysia (about 30 minutes from the Thai border), called Changlun. We are living in a really cute neighborhood that is about a 15 minute walk from town and we sleep above a classroom upstairs on our sleeping pads.
The weather here is HOT. Fans are a must since A/C isn’t very common in most houses.
The most common form of transportation is… walking. Public transportation isn’t really a thing here, but sometimes you can get lucky with a taxi.
The currency here is called Ringgits.
We have the opportunity to try a lot of local and street food since our house doesn’t have a place to cook. So far, the food is pretty great. Any form of fried rice is normally a great choice. Also milk tea- so good!!
Wi-fi will not be super accessible to us, so we will probably only get it once or twice a week.
Our ministry host, Pastor Thomas, is absolutely amazing! His family is so great. They have really taken us in as family already.
His ministry that we are working with is called, LOGO (Lovers of God Organization).
We mostly will be working in a kindergarten as teachers, but there are also a few opportunities for discipleship.
The biggest ministry we have here though is bringing light and joy to this community and letting them see Christ through our actions.
Sharing the gospel is actually illegal here, due to the heavy Muslim/Hindu population. Because of that we have to be very careful with how we carry ourselves here and the things that we say. We even introduce ourselves as only volunteers.
It has already been cool to see how God is here in this community and making himself known.
Please continue praying for me and my team as we continue adjusting. Pray that we would let the Lord shine through us without even having to use words. Also pray that the Lord would open opportunities for us here in our neighborhood and community.
These next three months will be different and interesting, but the Lord is ready to do some big things in our hearts and in Changlun.
God is truly asking me to depend on Him fully in this season and to let Him use me however he wants to shine his light in such a dark place.
Thank you all again for the love, support, and prayers you have shown me! Also I’m fully funded, praise the Lord!!!
I’m really excited to share this new adventure in Asia with all of you.
Much love and many blessings,
Gabbi 🙂
