We are lovingly all called to join Jesus on this great commission of loving his people. As Mathew 28:18-20 says, “we’re called to make disciples of all nations”.
As I fully believe we can live this out wherever we are planted, I feel that the Lord has called me to spend some time loving his people in Costa Rica. He’s given me a heart for adventure and for helping the needy and has placed this wonderful opportunity perfectly in my path.
Why Costa Rica?
So is this just a fancy excuse to spend a month in paradise? Almost. Outside of Costa Rica’s popular tourist destinations, there are large pockets of poverty and broken families throughout the nation. The country itself is transitioning from self-sufficient farming societies to more urban living. Traditional morals and lifestyles are giving way to a modern, consumer-oriented world. This, unfortunately, means that many are left behind to face hardship.
Organized through The World Race Semesters, I will be partnering with a local and established ministry called Connexions Ministries. Their goal is to empower the people and bring them all of the hope of the gospel along with uniting people together in life-changing ways.
So What Will You Be Doing, Exactly, Gabbey?
Great question. Myself and a team of 10-18 others from the World Race will help with a wide variety of ministry opportunities. We will be a part of evangelism efforts that include teaching English, leading vacation Bible schools and doing outreach in slum neighborhoods.
As 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 says, we are the body of the church. We cannot function separately but depend on one another for the glory of the Kingdom. God equips us in different ways to make this possible. While at this point in my life I have been blessed with time and freedom, I am lacking the funds to make it possible. I am humbly asking for any support you can donate for this special trip.
How To Help Make This Trip Possible
Instead of giving to an organization and maybe not seeing what may come of it, I’m asking that this month you invest in what Jesus can do through me between May 30th through June 30th. I would also be more than happy for you to join me on this journey and will be posting weekly highlights on my blog.
I know that this will inevitably come with challenges, but equal and abundant strength to meet it. I’m so excited to begin this leap of faith and would love if you would walk through it with me.
Best,
-Gabbey
