Exodus 14:10-16
“And the Lord said to Moses, ‘Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to
go forward…'” (v.15)
This is the Word I received from Abba this morning. In this passage Moses was giving the children of Israel some words of encouragement in response to the fear that grabbed a hold of them when they looked up and saw that they hadn’t gotten rid of their enemies at all but they were is hot pursuit of them! But Moses had a word for them, a word to build their confidence that God would see them through. He told them a little something like this :
- Do not be afraid
- Stand still and you will see how God’s going to save you this day
- Your enemies that you are seeing approaching/opposing/ fighting against you, you will NEVER see them again
- God Himself will fight for you
- Be at peace, be at rest
Yes, even I find comfort in these 5 phrases but the interesting thing was that Moses had a word for the Israelites that he was struggling to believe himself. I presume that there was a dialogue that he had with God that was not recorded in the Bible because God answered him and said “Why do you cry to me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.”
I can relate to Moses, I mean how many of us have the perfect encouraging word for someone’s situation but when it comes to believing it for yourself, you kinda struggle with it. That’s what I believe that Moses was dealing with in this situation. You speak words of faith, you shout out every promise concerning the situation you face and yet you look up and the sea looks like it has gotten a bit too rough for you so you start quaking in fear. That’s what happened to Moses, that’s what happens to all of us. We know the Word so we speak it because we rather say that than confess something negative but we haven’t conceived it as truth. And God wasn’t having it so He told Moses straight ” Hey, Moses, cut out all that whining, didn’t you just declare that I would fight for you? Well then, go forward”
Go forward
God didn’t pamper Moses and say “Hey Mo, I know how you are feeling, it’s getting pretty crazy out there…” no, God told Moses what would have built his confidence to actually believe in the words that he had declared in faith. He didn’t baby Moses, He basically told him man up and keep on keepin on…and if we are honest with ourselves, that is what we truly need to hear.
Whatever it is go forward, even though the Red Sea is in front of you and the Egyptians are forcefully advancing against you, you can’t just stand there you gotta go forward. God told you to go so go.
When I think about this the Holy Spirit gives me the illustration of doors that open automatically. These kind of doors will not open if you are 10 feet away but it is not until you approach them that the sensor will cause the doors to open for you. Same scenario here, it is not until you go forward that you will see the salvation that the Lord will accomplish for you today.
To be quite honest I am facing a number of difficulties these days, I’m not surprised at all, the devil knows when something good is in the air, but i’m left wondering “God, can I catch a break please?” Feeling like Moses, proclaiming faith filled words but at the same time struggling to believe them…yes it’s doubt creeping in. The reality hits ya and your knees give way and you find yourself crying out to God. That’s fine, cry.
But God reminded Moses of those very words that he himself had spoken out of his mouth, He reprimanded him and encouraged him to move ahead placing faith in the words he had spoken. That’s what Abba is telling me this morning and whoever else has the ears to hear. My knees are giving way, anxiety is threatening to set in but God is like “Enough! Don’t you remember My Words that you’ve been declaring by faith beloved? Believe in Me and go forward“
The word for you this morning is go forward. Even though your heart is racing and you have no idea how it’s all going to come together and you feel like you just can’t go on, yes you can. God is your strength, lean on Him, trust me He won’t let you fall. You have to go forward because there is nothing to go back to, but when you do go, then you will see the Lord working it all out for you. Check this out, this is about His glory so therefore He will totally and completely see you all the way through to the place that He has promised you.
